What Do I Wear Under My Snow Pants for Skiing?
Your Questions
I’m taking ski lessons for the first time and bought a pair of snow pants that I can easily manuever around in. However, I was told not to wear jeans underneath them. I have long-johns, but I doubt that’ll be enough.

You definitely do not want to wear blue jeans. I wear non-insultaed snow pants and wear a double layer of tech long underwear. Very low bulk and suprisingly warm. No cotton, like the other guy said, that could make you colder.
You don’t want anything down inside the top of the boot, so the lower your bulk the better. Have a great time!

a thong

Yeah, a thong would work but it won;t keep you warm. if the snowpants are insulated, then a pair of long johns would be fine, just make sure they are not cotton or any sweat will make you feel colder. Polypro or polyester is better.
If they are just "shell" pants (no insulation) then polyester fleece works well. You can get the fleece in different thicknesses, so you can change how much insulation you have based on how cold and/or windy it is outside.

I have insulated pants that are 25,000k breathable, and I wear expedition weight long johns under them which keep me plenty warm. If you have the kind that are just one layer of nylon with no insulation, you can try one layer of long johns with a pair of fleece sweats with straight legs over them (the kind with elastic at the bottom doesn’t always fit over the boot too well. These can be removed if you get too hot, but you’ll still have a layer beneath for warmth.
One important note on long johns; be sure you DO NOT wear the kind with a big seam at the bottom of the leg where a cuff is attached. This seam will dig into your leg due to the tightness of the boot and you will be in misery. If you have no choice but to wear this kind, pull them up past the top of your boots. Also make sure you don’t wear cotton socks; get ski socks if you can in either wool or a synthetic material.

Do not wear jeans. It will be hard for you to move around and maneuver in. Your best bet is wearing long johns and a pair of thin warm up style pants. You may think you’ll get cold, but after a while you will start sweating and get very warm. Bring and extra pair of sweats just in case you get wet.

Non cotton. Cotton gets wet when you sweat. They sell under armor for under your pants. Def do not wear jeans.

Ski pants are natural warm and long johns are designed to hold in heat. That is all you will need unless you are out in negative degrees…This time of year especially you will if anything be too warm. Have fun
