Is the North Face Outerwear the Best?

When you’re looking at ski equipment, you have a lot of choices. Every time I look at gear and clothing, I see new brands that I’ve never heard of before. Right away, I wonder if it’s a good brand or not. It could be made in a factory off somewhere that makes clothing for another company as well. I then look at the price and wonder what I’m paying for. Am I paying for the brand or quality?
When you start out skiing, you’ve got a big list of things that you need to buy. Some equipment that you need is: a ski jacket, ski pants, gloves, goggles, a ski hat, helmet, a ski mask, socks, base layer and mid layers. Then you have to decide if you’re going to buy or rent your skis, bindings, poles and boots. Just to get out on the snow can cost you quite a few bucks. Skiing isn’t like basketball where you just need some shoes, a ball and a hoop. Skiing is in cool or cold weather, so you have to be ready for it. I tell people all the time that skiing is not a cheap sport – but boy is it fun!
So when you’re loading up on your first round of ski clothing and equipment, it’s understandable that you may not pick the most expensive brands. I didn’t. I look back and I understand why I did that but I now see how I was not happy with the cheaper clothing and equipment. We all know that you get what you pay for and more expensive stuff is usually nicer.
I think that you can actually save money going with the more expensive ski clothing but only if you pick the right brands. You will end up with clothing that you like, that is comfortable and clothing that lasts a long time, too. There will be fewer trips back to the sporting goods store to replace the cheap clothing that just didn’t last. Instead of paying $80 on two pairs of ski pants, you could have gotten a nicer pair at the beginning for $150, saving yourself money, another trip to the store and the time having to get another pair.
Again, that’s what I did. I went with cheaper stuff and saw how quickly it wore out. I even bought a second pair of cheap ski pants and then I think a third pair. By then, I knew I had to do something different, so just for the fun of it, I tried on a pair of North Face ski pants. Wow, did I like them. They were nice looking, comfortable, warm and easy to move around in. I liked how the side vents easily opened and closed. These pants fit and worked right. Now where was that price tag? THAT much? Actually, that’s a bargain since I’ve already gone through three pairs of cheap ski pants. I’ll take them!
I already had a North Face mid-layer jacket that I loved, so getting the ski pants was an easy decision. Just this last summer, I bought a North Face ski jacket off season so that I had another good ski jacket besides my ski instructor ski jacket. I saved like $100 buying it in the summer and I can’t wait to wear it when it gets cold.
I did some research on The North Face and I found some interesting things. The main thing I found was that the two guys that started the company in San Francisco in 1968 were passionate about making the best outdoor clothing and gear. This passion is totally apparent in the 3 items that I own. Extra care and quality was put in and it’s easy to see and enjoy the benefits.
Sure, getting ski clothing made by The North Face isn’t cheap. The main thing I remember is that you do get what you pay for. If you buy cheap ski jackets, you get cheap ski jackets.
Maybe you are at the point where you have made your initial purchases of ski clothing and equipment and are now looking to make some upgrades to selected items. That’s where I was a short time ago. I encourage you to look at ski jackets, ski pants and vests made by The North Face.
If you’re going to go shopping, then I suggest checking out prices online and also trying on some clothing at your local ski shop or sporting goods store. Try things on, see what you like and see the quality and passion that goes into each item made by The North Face. You can comparison shop online if you like for the best price. You may not be able to find cheap North Face coats but know they’re going to be the best quality.
