In general, I think it’s a good idea. The best reason is that wearing glasses can be a pain in the butt while skiing. They fog up a lot when you go indoors and you may also have to get special goggles, depending on what size frames you have.
Contact lenses also don’t obstruct your vision like a glasses frame might. When skiing, your peripheral vision is pretty important as you can watch for other skiers or snowboarders that might come up next to you. Seeing and knowing they are there can prevent an accident on the slopes.
Wear Colored Contact Lenses While Skiing
With contact lenses, the only real downside is that they will get dried out easier and more quickly since there is a lot of air rushing at them. This happens even if you’re wearing goggles. There’s just more moving air, so they dry out pretty quickly. To remedy this, bring along your contact lens rewetting drops (not Visine) and put in a few drops halfway through the day and then when you finish for the day – which is, of course, at closing time, right? 
I’ve got friends who pop in their contact lenses while they ski and then switch back to glasses when they’re done for the day. So that’s another idea and another option you have.
