Are These Conditions Decent for Snow Skiing?
Your Questions
Planning a ski trip for Tuesday, March 10th at Winterplace in WV. Are these stats okay for skiing? We’re newbies and have a gift certificate that we need to use this week. Stats are:

Lifts Open 5 of 9
Surface Loose Granular
Base Depth 40-80"

Would they open the slopes if you couldn’t ski? The 5 rating is middle of the road I think.
Curious as to what others think? We have day passes and free rental so we’re not spending any money but are we wasting our time?
THANKS!

Well, those are defiantly "Spring" conditions.
Go anyways. Bad day skiing is better than good day working.

last snowfall was dec 12 and dec 6th ?? damn, i really hope they have good snowmaking guns-which i doubt…btw, no way in hell do they have a base of 40-80 inches if it hasnt snowed since the first week of dec and they had warm temps…i would go since its basically free for you but just rememeber that in no way is that considered typical skiing…you need to head up to new england or go out west

You’ll be skiing what are known as "spring conditions." That means there won’t be any snow along the treeline, there are going to be thin spots and maybe even some bare spots. But for a trail to be "open" means there has to be a way down, top to bottom, and there are plenty of open trails. If they are grooming then the slush should be minimal.
Definitely go, and have a great time!
