Remember, you are talking about Iowa. I grew up there, and skiid Sundown quite a bit. All the hills are pretty lame compared to big mountain skiing, so be prepared for short runs and icy snow. I would go up and try Afton Alps on Mann Kato up in Minnesota. They are a bit bigger and have more terrain features. Over in Montezuma, there is a small ski hill called Fun Valley, and up in Boone ther is a small hill, but I cnat remember the name of it. Sleepy Hollow in Des Moines isnt too bad, but still really small. Plane tickets from Chicago Midway to Denver on Southwest are usually pretty cheap, it would probably be worth the time and money to head out there if you really want to ski.
Wow haven’t been there for years. You are in the midwest so good is relative. Try Chestnut and Sundown, skip SnowStar.
Cascade is a bit further away, central WI, but worth the drive.
There is also a cluster of decent hills in northern WI and western UP, but the drive is too long for anything less than 3-4 days.
