8 Year Old Beginner Snowboarder Has Developed Neck Pain. Is This a Common Problem? What Could He Be Doing Wron?
Your Questions
8 year old has been snowboarding for 2 years and has had 3 private lessons. The instructors say he is doing fine, and has been up on the lift of Burke Mtn VT. Does deer run, but admits it’s hard for him. Has had neck pain since going to the top that hasn’t subsided in 2 weeks. Could he be doing something wrong? Is this a common injury amoung new, young snow boarders? Maybe skiing would be less strenuous on his neck.

if he’s still crashing a lot that is probably why his neck is hurting. when people crash they strain their necks naturally as a way to keep their heads from taking too much impact, making for a very sore neck,
however, if you are really worried about it, you should probably bring him in to the doctor. if he hasn’t been snowboarding in two weeks, and his neck is still hurting, it is definately time to bring him in to be seen by a doctor.

Has he had any injuries?? even minor, because snowboarding can cause pain if you land wrong or even turn your neck the wrong way while riding down the slope. You should check into a doctor and see how that goes> I doubt skiing would be any different

he might be keeping his neck completely stiff when he’s going down the run because i assume the instructors are telling him to keep his head facing down the hill. keeping his neck stiff for long periods of time might be doing it. not to mention if you fall and your stiff it’ll be worse.

If he falls a lot he could be getting whiplash. The pain would be the same with skiing, if he falls a lot.
